N.B. There will be no audio version of this Sunday Letter, as I am writing this in the library and am not allowed to talk…
Hello Dear Friend,
Is it me or are the weeks flying by now? It seems once we hit autumn, the year feels as though it is really coming to a close. The leaves are definitely turning out there, putting on their autumn plumage and there is a distinct sense of the world putting its pyjamas on and getting ready for bed.
As you know I have been at Gladstone’s Library in North Wales all this week, and I have spent most of the time in the Theology Section looking at books on Angels - no surprise there…
This part of the library is huge! Imagine a large vaulted hall, filled with books, peppered with desks, everyone with their heads down, working silently. It definitely is one of those libraries where you do not raise your voice. Hushed questions are asked of the librarians, and every little clatter of a laptop being set up, or a book dropped seems like a cannon going off. Yesterday afternoon (Friday) was magical, the rain was lashing on the windows and then it began to thunder, it was so atmospheric. Due to the amount of rain there has been this week, I haven’t been outside much, but am due to go to the British IronWorks Sculpture Park in Owestry, tomorrow to meet up with my brother and his family. Please send your prayers for good weather, or else my mobility scooter and I are going to be very, very wet.
Postscript: The weather was good, we even managed a bit of sunshine, and I can highly recommend the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, it was filled with amazing sculptures.
Just be careful where you park…
Nothing New Under The Sun
For those of you who have been here since the beginning, (thank you), you may remember that I am writing a fantasy book about Angels helping humanity fight the Darkness in the world. The main premise of the book is that the Darkness, (anger, fear, greed, guilt, envy, hate, scorn, etc.) is a tangible thing, a smog-type substance which can get inside a person’s aura, where it feeds and grows on negative emotions.
Now I know this is not a new concept and I have heard/seen others talk about negative emotions growing and feeding off itself in cycles.
However, I did not realise quite how far back this concept went.
In his book History of Witchcraft, Francis Hutchinson, 1720, asks similar questions:
‘It is a question moved by Sealiger, why men of a melancholick constitution be more subject to Fears, Fancies and Imaginations of Devils and Witches, than other Tempers Be?’
His answer is ‘Because from their black and sooty blood, gloomy, fuliginous Spirits do fume into their Brain, which bring back gloomy and frightful images, representations and similitudes in…[their minds],’History of Witchcraft, Francis Hutchinson, 1720
He was thinking of how people can be affected by the darker flights of fancy such as seeing imps, etc., when it came to witchcraft.
But I am sure, if you have watched any of the ‘Ghost Adventures’ types of program, that you can see how once a person thinks that they are affected by the darker spirits - demons, imps, etc., the idea blooms. It becomes all they think of, and every new event becomes more terrifying, and the TV programs which promote this aspect, just feed these feelings and fears.
Self-fulfilling Prophecy
But as I have mentioned before in ‘Do Our Words Affect Our Environment?’ The fears and thoughts which we put into a place or event can help feed the negative (or it must be posited, the positive) energies and our feelings. I must confess that although I used to watch all the ghost programs I could find, the only ones I watch now are Kindred Spirits, or anything with Chris Flemming or Dave Schrader in. I know that we are never going to see all the evidence they find, due mostly to which story the production team want to promote, but I feel that Kindred Spirits and Chris Fleming treat the spirits and entities with respect. They do not go charging into a place screaming about demons, demonic possession and other negative events.
If I were a spirit, hanging out at a place I once loved, I would like any future investigators to treat me as they do, as if they were coming into my home.
Conclusion
So really the research I have done this week has confirmed the need to approach life and the paranormal with a positive outlook. Do not look for the Darkness, for it will find you and it could overwhelm you.
Remember, if you look for the Good in the world, you will find it, and it will raise your vibrations, your mood, and your heart, protecting you from any negative influences you may encounter.
Until next time, as ever, may your angels and guides watch over you and protect you until we meet again.
