Angels
and how I came to be writing this newsletter
Hello and welcome back,
This time I thought I would explain a little about angels and how they can interact with us.
They are in the title of this newsletter, ‘Guided by Angels’, but I am not sure I have ever really discussed why I came to name it that way.
Angels can appear to anyone, at any time. Recently, I heard of them popping up in Aldi to give support to a harassed mother.
Mine* appeared in the middle of the night. Yes, I had a celestial visit. I am not sure why, but it has changed my life, more on this next time.
*I say mine, but really I have no claim or rights over the being who visited me.
Late summer last year I awoke in the middle of the night, rolled over and noticed a beautiful golden being floating opposite my bed, almost as if they were in another bed. But they were about six feet off the floor.
I don’t remember any words being spoken.
I can’t now remember their face.
What lingers still is the overwhelming feeling of unconditional love that emanated from the angel. It glowed golden in the dark room, hovering there, watching over me like an anxious parent watches a child.
They filled me with a sense of total peace and calm. A knowing that all would be well.
Silently, I thanked this wonderful being for their love and care, then fell straight back to sleep.
In the morning when I awoke, the feelings remained. Still feeling that all would be well.
But who was I to be visited by such a creature? I was no-one out of the ordinary.
I told no-one.
But I started to paint angels. Lots and lots of them, some for protection, some sending love, others off duty.
Then, one day, I painted Daisy.
She wanted to tell me a story…
Ever since then, I have been writing that story. A tale of how, when we live with open, accepting hearts, we are capable of defeating the darkness in the world.
Now, I am not naïve enough to think that all we can overcome all the darkness in the hearts of humanity. But if we start with ourselves, our family, our neighbours, we can start to make the world a better, brighter place.
It comes back to kindness, acting from love, and being curious about the other people in our world, rather than judgemental. I found a poem the other day by Sean Thomas Dougherty which, although at first sight, is a bleak, dark collection of words. If you flip it, it can be quite a positive message.
If harsh words can leave wounds in our hearts and minds, just imagine what kind and loving words could do.
What good we could do.

My angel came to me in the middle of a reiki session. I was silently crying over the sad things in my life when I realised that I was being hugged with great warmth. The tears stopped. All this time, my therapist had continued. Behind my closed eyelids, the most beautiful, calm, deep blue colour appeared. My therapist told me that was the Archangel Michael’s colour. I don’t know if he is my guardian angel. But I spoke to him when my sister was in a coma and asked him if it was his wish, could he send healing angels to help her back to us. She still hasn’t contacted me but I understand from my brother in law that she’s doing better now she’s at home and making progress. I ask Archangel Michael every night to watch over her and help me accept her wishes.
What a beautiful experience! Thank you for sharing it, and for highlighting what others may experience but not recognise it as a loving, benevolent presence. I have at times felt warm hands touching mine when praying or meditating, and during Reiki.
