Hello Dear Friend,
I have had a strange week these past few days - that reminds me of a John Denver song about Toledo, Ohio. ‘I spent a week there one day.’ The full lyrics are on a link at the bottom if you have never heard it before, they are worth a listen.
Anyhoo, the Bank Holidays really did a number on my schedule, which is mad because I don’t go out to work, but there you go. I did spend a couple, no, actually three days at The Green Barn’s Island Fibre and Fleece event, which was wonderful. We spoke to some really interesting people, Jane demonstrated her spinning wheel and drop spindle spinning, and I was demonstrating how to use a traditional Shetland Knitting Belt to knit a traditional Gansey jumper, it’s a type of fisherman’s jumper.
There will be workshops and classes if you are on the island over the next few months, I will share the details when they are finalized.
Rabbit Holes
Mentioning the Toledo, Ohio song by John Denver has led me to a rabbit hole, which I have, of course, fallen down, head first.
John Denver’s music was a constant companion to my early years, alongside the Spinners, The Dubliners, and many, many, more. I went to find the link on YouTube for the Toledo song, and I am now listening to his Greatest Hits album. I will pop a link below:
I hope you enjoy them too.
Memories of all that has been
The music reminds me of all that has been, of all the things I have lost with the passing of my parents.
That shared history.
Those shared memories.
I am the only one who holds those things in my heart now, and for that, I am very grateful. Grateful for all the times I watched them dance to the songs, for all the times they sang along, and grateful that I still have the vinyl albums downstairs waiting to be played and unlock the memories.
Do you have something that reminds you of your loved ones? Did they have a favourite song? I bet there is something, somewhere which will take you back to earlier days and events.
Cherish them, hold them close, revisit them, even if they bring a tear to your eye. They are reminders of all the love you shared, the lives you shared, and the adventures you had.
But, dear friend, do not forget, whilst it is wonderful to cherish those memories and feelings, you must remember to make new ones as well.
So have adventures, live life to the full, as much as you can, health permitting, and fill your days with music, love, and laughter.
Short, but hopefully sweet this week. Have a great week, and until next time, as ever, may your angels and guides watch over you and protect you until we meet again.
Love and Light,
Tracy
