Hello Dear Friend,
Welcome to another Sunday Letter, I hope you have had a great week, and have managed the heat which is sweeping the UK. It has been 32 degrees on the island and very humid. Thankfully, it is due to pass soon and I can’t wait. I must admit I am more of a snow and ice girl than a beach person when it comes to temperatures. I love frosty mornings with the leaves laying in drifts, inviting me to kick them up and shuffle through them, picking up pinecones and conkers.
What is your favourite season of the year? I would love to know.
This week I want to talk about Rainbow Bridges, and also just a heads up the Tarot Reading will also be being sent out today, so I will be in your inbox twice. Sorry, not sorry.
Rainbow Bridges
This week I have seen a lot of posts about people losing beloved animals, and it had me thinking about the whole Rainbow Bridges thing. it is almost second nature now if someone loses a pet to post that they have ‘gone over the rainbow bridge’.
Why is that?
Well, it comes from a piece possibly written by Paul C. Dahm, a grief counsellor in the US, although the origins of the piece are not well known. Several people have claimed they wrote the piece, so who knows…
“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….”
From Humane Goods Medium post
Whatever the origin, it has brought comfort to many since it appeared in the 1980’s and 90’s.
Having recently watched some of the Marvel Avengers films, it reminded me of the Bifrost Bridge from Norse Mythology - I know going off on a tangent.
The Bifrost Bridge is described as a burning rainbow bridge which connects Earth (Midgard) to Asgard, primarily it is a route only open to the gods. But, it also allows the passage of those souls who have proven themselves worthy warriors.
Personally, I believe that all pets are worthy to live in heaven, or the next realm, however you think of the next level of incarnation. I am not sure I want them running around in a large field with no ‘human’ contact, I prefer to think that they are waiting with family members who have already ‘crossed over’ (references to bridges again…), so that they can have fusses, cuddles, and love while they wait to be reunited, along with all the space on the sofa and the bed…
