Something Better, Pushing Right Back...
Albert Camus, or is it?
Hello, Dear Friend,
How nice it feels to be back at the keyboard, writing to you again. It has been a minute, hasn’t it? How have you been? I hope the world has been treating you kindly. Things have been up and down here, but I hold on to hope for the future.
Hope seems a fragile thing in this world of shouty men, promoting peace with one hand while tearing down people’s rights with the other. I/we need to remember that they are the minority. Only by showing love and compassion to others can we overcome the hatred and distrust brewing in the world. But you don’t really need me to tell you this. If you are here and reading or listening to my words, you already know how to be a kind and loving human being.
Albert Camus
A friend recently shared a quote on Facebook, thank you, Dawn. 😘💗
This is the quote:
He [Albert Camus] said,
“In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love.
In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, and invincible smile.
In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm.
I realised, through it all, that in the midst of winter, I found there was within me, an invincible summer.
And that makes me happy.
For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger, something better, pushing right back.”
Albert Camus
The realisation that we all have something stronger, maybe something stronger than we realise, inside us, gives me hope for the future of humanity.
Then I fell down a rabbit hole, trying to work out where the quote came from. 🤪
Albert Camus actually said, “…in the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer” This was in the lyrical essay, Retour to Tipasa, which was included in the 1954 book Summer.
No one seems to know who took the original sentence and expanded it, but it really tugs at something deep inside us. The part of us which wants, or maybe needs, to be a good person, a person who helps anyone in need. I would love to know who wrote those words, to see what else they wrote, because surely they wrote more than those few words.
Do you have some favourite words which give you hope? I would love for you to share them in the comments. 💗💗💗
