Hello Dear Friend,
Thank you for being you, thank you for being here, and thank you for continuing to listen and/or read these missives each week. This week has been a strange one for me - how are we so close to Christmas? Why is my brother never organised with any ideas for my nephews’ presents?… The joys of modern holidays.
I’ve recovered from the craft fair last weekend, except for the fact I caught a lurgy (you will probably hear it in my voice if you are listening to this Sunday Letter), the price I paid for mingling with crowds of people, but it was worth it.
Slowing Down
Not the usual thing you think of for this time of year, just when deadlines are looming, meals and houses are being prepped for visitors and family alike.
But I wanted to remind you to slow down amidst all the chaos which is around this time of year. It is so easy to be caught up in all the stress, drama and fear of missing out which rushes in like a tidal wave at the end of November and engulfs us all.
This is your permission slip to stop, take a step back, maybe even re-evaluate the things which ‘need’ to be done. Especially this year when things are so tight finacially. When you look back on your past Christmas gatherings - was it the food or the things which stood out?
Or was it the conversation which happened while the kids were playing, or the hug from a friend who saw you needed it. The things which touch your heart and soul are the things which make this time of year, heck, any time of year, special. Those magical memories and moments don’t cost anything, they are just human connections at their simplest.
So take a step back, connect with your heart and soul, hopefully you will make some wonderul memories this year.
The Conversation.com had a very interesting article this week about how technology is stealing our time, it took the view that technology instead of freeing us from tasks, is actually creating more tasks for us to do. Who just sits and waits for the bus/doctors/coffee any more, just taking in the atmosphere around us and watching people go by? Mostly, and I am as guilty of this as anyone, we sit and scroll on our phones, or play a game, or answer emails… The list is endless. I am sure there are even times when I/we have searched on our phones or computers for ways to be more present in our lives, instead of just switching the machines off and being present.
If you like to plan things out in a simple, calm way there are a couple of offerings you might like…
