Hello Dear Friend,
How are you this week? I am still struggling a little with my energy levels and hoping they sort themselves out soon, please, send a wish out to the universe for me. But that said, I am enjoying the run-up to Christmas. The mince pies and sausage rolls are cooked and in the freezer, and stuffings are next on the hit list.
How is it Christmas Day next Sunday? Where have these last three months gone to? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it is like this every year, but, as it is once a year we forget how swiftly the world really turns. Soon the days will be longer, the light stronger, and hope, brighter, as the natural world springs back into life.
This week I am reflecting on light, and how you can shine yours out into the world, to benefit both yourself and others.
Be a Light in the Darkness
These last few days and weeks I have been pondering about the light. Maybe it is because we are only a few days away from the shortest day of the year, maybe because it has been so cold. (Our heating was finally fixed last week, so I am no longer cocooned in 6 layers of woolens writing this to you, yippee!) But, by the by, this time of year the days are short and our homes darker. That is why I like it really, it allows the candles we light and the fairy lights on the tree to shine that little bit brighter.
But I digress. Do you have a desk lamp at home? Have you ever noticed that it only illuminates a small area on your desk, just enough to light your working area, laptop, paper, book, or whatever you are concentrating on.
I realised that it was a metaphor for how we live our lives, focused on the task at hand, whatever that is - reading, working, writing, or self-improvement.
I would love it, if you do have a desk lamp that is, the next time you are sitting with it lit, (and not before it gets too hot) turn it upwards.
See the difference it makes to the room.
Now, think of the light as your love, compassion, and kindness.
Focused down it encompasses our family and friends.
Focused upwards, it can encompass the whole community.
Share your love, your kindness, and your compassion with everyone you meet. Greet one another with genuine smiles, ask how they are and really listen to the answers, and endeavor to leave them feeling a little better about themselves and the world they inhabit.
Now imagine if everyone lived this way.
Shining their light out into the world, brightening all they come in contact with.
What a wonderful world that would be.
Dare you try?
This quote, which comes from Diana Butler Bass’ Substack sums it up nicely:
We are showered every day with gifts, but they are not meant for us to keep. Their life is in their movement, the inhale and the exhale of our shared breath. Our work and our joy is to pass along the gift and to trust that what we put out into the universe will always come back.

It is Christmas next week, I’m sure you are fully aware of this, but I will pop into your inbox with a brief message. I hope you have a great time, filled with love, laughter, and good food.
Have you put your tree up yet? (if you celebrate Christmas that is) We will be putting ours up later today. It is an artificial tree that has done good service over the years, and there will, of course, be non breakables at the bottom of the tree in case the cats become curious. On the whole, though, they are very good, if something gets knocked off it is fair game, but they don’t worry otherwise.
Until next time, as ever, may your angels and guides watch over you and protect you until we meet again.
Love and Light,
Tracy
