Love vs Hate

Please, take the long route through this world

Hello,

It will come as no surprise that last Friday’s events have sparked this missive. I am, of course, referring to the murder of Sir David Amess.

The universe has been giving me nudges to write about this. Words said, words heard on the radio, even emails with the same sort of message. Sometimes, the universe really wants to point something out. Do you find that too?

My first reactions were shock, surprise and prayers for his family. Followed by a questioning.

Why?

What makes someone do such a thing?

How can that act seem a reasonable thing to do? Or even an option in today’s world.

Politics, personal opinions or views matter not a whit in these situations. This was a human life. A human serving his community. This service, unfortunately, made it easier for this to happen.

Hate is easy.

It is the knee-jerk reaction to something we find abhorrent.

Love, kindness, and understanding take conscious thought and actions, the longer route if you like.

I urge everyone to take the longer route. Be kind, approach others with respect, love, and curiosity. Try to understand why, what has happened to someone, that the violent act seemed a reasonable response.

I do not say that we condone their actions.

But without understanding and comprehension, we will be unable to help others to find a better way. A kinder way, filled with love and compassion. Please, be the sunshine in the room.
