Hello, dear friends,
I am not sure what happened there. I disappeared…
I think I was overwhelmed. I am sure many of you have felt it in recent months. That feeling that the world is going to hell in a hand basket (I wonder where that saying comes from), and that I am powerless to do anything to help. Slowly, very slowly, I have been coming out of my funk, and I have given myself a stern talking to.
At times like these, we need positive voices.
Voices that speak of love, understanding and kindness. I hope I am one of those voices.
I have also received numerous signs recently indicating that I need to continue writing these missives to you, including bird feathers and angel numbers.
So, here I am, I have missed writing these letters to you, and I hope you will forgive my absence.
How are you?
How are you doing? Really? Have you withdrawn from watching or listening to the news?
The recent report by Rueters says:
News avoidance reaches crisis levels amid information fatigueIn a nutshell:
40 per cent of people worldwide now sometimes or often avoid news - matching the highest level ever recorded and up from 29 per cent in 2017.
The reasons are universal: negative mood impact (39 per cent), feeling overwhelmed (31 per cent), too much conflict coverage (30 per cent), and powerlessness to act (20 per cent).
So, I guess I am not alone in my news avoidance. Not that I am really avoiding it, I still see the headlines from the BBC, and will investigate deeper if I am interested in the story. I guess the main difference is that I try to fact-check my news consumption now. There is so much misinformation and repeated falsehoods that I no longer take what is said at face value.
Is there any good news in the world?
That is a great question. My answer is definitely YES!
There are many publications which bring the positive news to the front and centre, and below is a list of a few:
Positive News - This is a weekly email with a round-up of some good news from around the world. The last newsletter spoke about the benefits of phone-free schools and how Parisians can once again bathe in the Seine, amongst other stories.
The Happy Newspaper - This is a physical newspaper, produced quarterly, started in 2015 via a Kickstarter campaign, and now reaches over 20,000 subscribers in 33 countries. It is full of good news, quirky illustrations and has a brilliant kids section.
The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation - They organise a RAK week, and provide worksheets to encourage kindness in schools, workplaces, and at home. I receive an image every day in my inbox, similar to the one below:
Only Good News Daily - I haven’t read this publication, but it popped up in my search. The website blurb says - Brighten your day with a healthy dose of daily good news, positive stories, uplifting features, inspiring ideas, optimism, humour, and lots of other stuff to make you smile. So who knows? It sounds good.
Wherever you are, whatever you are going through, always be kind. People remember the times when folk have been kind. We are all the same, despite any external differences; we all want to love and be loved, to belong and to be safe.
Until next time, as ever, may your angels and guides watch over you and protect you until we meet again.
Love and Light,
Guided By Angels will always be free to subscribers. If you enjoy it, please click the like button, or please share it with someone who might enjoy it.
There is the option now to become a paid subscriber if you would like to support these Sunday Letters in that way, or you could consider buying me a cup of tea.
I definitely run on tea.
Thank you for reading and for subscribing.
Until next time, bye for now.
