Hello Dear Friend,
Well, here we are again, another Sunday has arrived. How was your week? Mine was still a little strange, and up until last night, I had no idea what I was going to talk to you about this week. Apart from one thing which I will share first. the rest of this week’s burble will be about creativity. I started working my way through The Artists Way by Julia Cameron this week, the twelve-week course to help anyone to become more creative. Now she doesn’t say that by the end of the twelve weeks that we will be fine art painters or epic novel writers. But by just beginning to step outside of the rules we have for our lives, and by looking at the world slightly differently, our whole worldview can change.
But enough of that, the first thing I wanted to share with you this week is this:
The Webb Space Telescope Images
The Tarantula Nebula isn’t it just amazing? for those listening, there is an image captured by NIRCam, and there is a link below to their website or you can click here
There is a very detailed description of this nebula on their page, but basically, it is a Stellar Nursery. How amazing is that? Stars are being born in this galaxy, which is called the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy, which is a mere 161,000 light-years away. I could sit and stare at the images this telescope has collected for hours, they are totally amazing in my humble opinion, and it really brings home to me what such small specks of dust we are in the whole of the unknown galaxies out there. Words fail me really, I love seeing these images.
Being Creative
This came up in a group session last night - how do you become more creative?
What do you do? No, seriously - what do you do to be more creative? I would love to know, what tickles your creative funny bone.
It got me thinking about ways to be creative, ways to ‘unblock’ yourself if you will, and how you can just have fun. Everyone will be different when it comes to this, some people bake to relax and get creative, others paint, work in their garden or maybe even go for a walk in nature.
Personally, I love just doing something silly, there are huge amounts of inspiration to be found on the web, try Instagram, Pinterest or just pop a phrase into a search engine.
I have popped a list of projects and inspiration at the bottom of this post if you want to find something to do. A few that really caught my eye were butterfly watercolour paintings, watercolour birds, smiley painted rocks and spotty paintings made using cotton buds, they all just made me smile when I saw them.
Another Idea to Spark Creativity
Take a look at Eventbrite and see if there is anything you would like to know a bit more about, this week I visited the Orkney’s with a presentation from Orkney Time Travel/Brodgar about Viking methods of turning Fleece into Fabric, and have a video to watch about the Lindisfarne Gospels from Dig Ventures, and coming up this week I will be going to a talk by Lucy Worsley about her latest book on Agatha Christie, hosted by The National Archives.
Snapdragon Studio
I have mentioned Jane and Snapdragon Studio before, but this is also a place I go to for gentle creative ideas. Within the membership, there are lots of tutorials for stitching, dyeing, and making simple things - one of which I will do this week is a heart with Hydrangea flowers, the workshop was to use dried Honesty seed heads, but in the vein of ‘using what you have - start where you are’ - I have dried flowers. I will show you a picture next week, I might even get myself going and pop it on Instagram too, I have been really poor at putting things up on there recently.
The membership doors are being opened again on 23 September, and will only be open for a short while. If you are interested click here for more information and to be added to the waitlist.
Things catching my eye this week:
I love watching Murder She Wrote, it is a little bit of fun, and can be found on quite a few channels at various times of the day. Well, a friend of mine, Jenny Hammerton, is about to launch her Muder She Cooked Recipe book and is running a competition and a cook-along for Angela Lansbury’s Date and Walnut Cake. Short but hopefully sweet this week, next week I am thinking about discussing totem animals and would love to know what you think about them. Do you have a bird or an animal which really resonates with you? I will share mine next week.
Until next time, as ever, may your angels and guides watch over you and protect you until we meet again.
Love and Light,
Tracy
